Wee Story, Big Sound

Wee Story, Big Sound has been created with the early Primary cohort in mind.

Wee Story, Big Sound aims to build on those fine listening and group working skills that form the basis of Music and Me in the nursery, and which are so important for developing literacy at this stage.

The playful nature of Wee Story, Big Sound makes the work engaging, and celebrates the children’s creativity – encouraging self-expression and building self-confidence.

Again, we use music-based games, exercises, activities, singing and group music-making as strategies for developing listening, turn-taking, team work, early literacy skills and music skills.

During the sessions, the children will learn to play around with sounds and language, rhythm and rhyme, call and response and echoes singing traditional songs, favourite pop songs and, of course, our own made-up songs.

As the title suggests, the aim is that everyone learns how music can communicate ideas and feelings to help tell stories.

Story narratives provide the opportunity to explore group music-making in an intuitive, fun and engaging way as the group creates music to accompany imaginary journeys or original stories.

For the last 8 years, Wee Story, Big Sound has been popular with teachers and pupils alike in Primary schools across the country and is constantly developing and evolving to meet the needs of the early primary cohort.

It also offers a great opportunity for meaningful collaboration with Primary 1 and 2 teachers as we work together to hone the content of the sessions to support and enhance learning right across the curriculum.
