David Trouton
David is a musician and composer best known for his work in theatre and music education.
He enjoys working with collaborators from diverse disciplines – dancers, film- makers, app designers, visual artists, community groups, schools and writers exploring how music and sound can help communicate ideas and tell stories.
This fascination extends into David’s work with schools and educators, devising bespoke projects and programmes of work that use music to explore and extend the curriculum.
David launched engagewithmusic in 2012 as a platform to share and combine his experience of composing music for theatre with his programme of inspiring and accessible workshops and courses that aim to harness children’s innate musicality and love of music to help them build a creative confidence that will have a positive impact on their lives and learning.
As a musician, David has composed and performed music for many of Scotland’s major theatre companies including NTS, Dundee Rep, Traverse and Edinburgh International Festival. He also has long-standing creative relationships with Wee Stories Theatre Co, Catherine Wheels, Visible Fictions and Shona Reppe Puppets, writing and performing music for their award-winning shows that tour internationally.
As pianist and arranger for Gaelic singer Alyth McCormack, David has performed throughout Europe and North America.
